Installation Instruction Page
String and tape are needed for proper angle of PIC-NIX.
Included with the lens and cover is a piece of knotted string and tape.
Do not throw these out. You will use these items as a measuring device.

In order for the PNX device to be effective it must be properly installed and this requires angling it correctly. Every car is made with a slightly different angle in the area where the license plate is attached. Using the following simple installation technique will allow the PIC-NIX privacy cover to work for you.

1) Attach the PNX cover, lens and license plate to rear of vehicle. Attach using top 2 holes of cover and plate only (to begin) and attach nuts, bolts or screws loosely to allow for the PNX to be tilted or angled.

2) Hold the knotted end of the string to the ground with your hand or foot and "measure" to the center of your license plate. Loop the string around a finger and back down to the ground. Tie a knot where the chord reaches the ground. (twice the height of plate)

3) Tape the knotted END of the string to the center of your license plate at the end knot.

4) "Measure" the distance from the license plate to the knot you just tied (which will be twice the height of your plate) and mark a spot (with anything handy, stone etc) on the ground directly below the knot and directly behind your car.

5) Detach the string from the plate and place the end knot on the marked spot on the ground and step on it. (If your license plate is positioned high on the back of your car or van you may need a step ladder. If so place the string under a ladder leg to keep it in place.)

6) While standing with toes at the marked spot, look directly at your PNX covered plate while holding the knot at the top of your head. It is at this angle that your license plate should appear with the characters blacked out. If not dark, turn the PIC-NIX lens up side down and check again. One of these positions should be close to blacking out. You can tell by simply viewing from a slightly higher and lower position than the knotted string indicates.

7) Fine tune by adjusting bottom of PNX lens/cover and plate, out and in until the plate appears "blacked out" from this distance and head height. If the PNX has to be tilted you will have to use the nylon bolts and nuts (see hint below) or washers on the bottom holes to keep the correct angle and then tighten nuts, bolts or screws in the top 2 holes to keep in place.

When the PNX is ideally set you will see the lens clear at about an equal distance as you move your head higher and lower from the marked / knotted spot.

8) Make sure that the cover is well connected to keep the plate, PNX and cover at the proper angle without movement from wind, bumps etc. Double check.

Warning!
Affix firmly but DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN as this may crack the lens or cover.

Hint! If you need to utilize the PNX only on a “Part Time” basis (to and from work?) use of “Butterfly” nuts to attach the PIC-NIX to the top holes makes for easy removal and replacement. Just make sure that you have some means of replacing it at the same angle each time so remeasuring becomes unnecessary. Using the nylon bolts as spacers, washers, nuts etc on the bottom holes or posts will help to keep the angle unchanged.

Hint! Nylon bolts and metal nuts have been supplied to allow for the bottom of the assembly to be angled properly. The nylon bolt has a nut threaded on and is fed through the bottom holes of the plate, PNX and cover from the INSIDE so that the NYLON bolt head touches the car. The 2nd nut is threaded onto the outside of the cover. Adjusting the inside nut will adjust the bottom of the assembly closer or further from the car and decrease or increase the tilt so you can fine tune the angle of the assembly to meet the requirements of step 7 above. When the correct angle is achieved tighten the outside nut to "lock" the bolt in place. Tighten attachment hardware at top of cover / plate. See WARNING! above. The nylon bolts are 1 1/4 x 5/16 inch. Carefully trim the bolt length if needed.

Hint! You may find that buying new hardware for this task will save you time and grief if the old is rusty.

Warning! The effectiveness and life span of this product will be adversely affected by leaving the PNX LENS device on your vehicle in DIRECT SUNLIGHT AND HEAT.
